The Whispering Tree has been awarded South African Champion Tree status by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Marietjie Coetzee, custodian of “the Whispering Tree” and owner of Voëlroepersfontein, was instrumental in starting this long process. The true age of this massive Ficus burkei (Burke’s fig or common wild fig) is unknown.
