Starting point:
Laingsburg
6901
Route: By car from Laingsburg, through Seweweekspoort pass, past Amalienstein and Zoar, then on to Hoeko Valley and ending in Ladismith (Route 62).
Having survived a flashflood during 1981, the few corrugated-iron roofed Victorian buildings down Laingsburg side streets are worth exploring.
Take the R323 out of Laingsburg and drive along one of the most scenic Karoo drives until you reach Seweweekspoort Pass, a rugged gravel road through one of the country’s most spectacular ravines. Turn right at a t-junction when exiting the pass for a detour to visit the Lutheran Church in Zoar.
You are now on Route 62, one of the most popular routes in South Africa for its scenic views and being the world’s longest wine route. You will enter Ladismith from the Hoeko Valley. Ladismith is a good place to overnight for there are several historical buildings and much natural beauty to visit and admire.
